I'm the St. Louis Post-Dispatch's ambassador to the web. You've heard of a news hound? Well, I'm a bird. Also, I love puns. (Reblogs, likes and links are not endorsements.)

  1.   Jim Edmonds may again don No. 15 next month as a spring training instructor with the St. Louis Cardinals. The club has not announced the move, which some speculate could lead to a consultant role to general manager John Mozeliak. Mozeliak confirmed he has invited Edmonds to camp. Edmonds, 41, hit 393 home runs with 1,199 RBIs during a 17-year playing career that featured eight years with the Cardinals. (Post-Dispatch photo by Chris Lee / 2007)

  2.   Deja Craig • It was Game 1 all over again. Alexi Ogando comes out of the bullpen to face pinch hitter Allen Craig with the score tied. Remember how that ended? Same way. Craig singles to right, though this time Nelson Cruz is nowhere close, and David Freese (seen in the background) scores to make it 1-0. 3.   Under pressure • Cardinals’ slugger Albert Pujols is facing increased scrutiny. The Cardinals had a chance to come back from Jaime Garcia’s implosion Sunday afternoon, but Pujols hit into a 5-4-3 double play to kill a potential rally in the seventh. If it was Nick Punto or Allen Craig, it’d be one of those things. But this is Pujols. When he comes up empty, it draws attention for obvious reasons: He’s been the best hitter of his generation. And he’s becoming a free agent after the season. The Brewers won Game 1 of the NLCS, 9-6, but the Cards, and Pujols, are hardly finished. Game 2 starts tonight at 7:05. 4.   Second-guessing • Sunday’s fifth-inning carnage against Cardinals pitcher Jaime Garcia was stunning. It began with a single by Corey Hart. Then a double by Jerry Hairston Jr. Another double, this from Ryan Braun, who had smashed a two-run, 463-foot homer off Garcia in the first inning. And finally, a shock-and-awe 420-foot blast by Prince Fielder for another two-run jack. By the end of the inning, the Brewers led 6-5. So what took Tony La Russa so long to pull Garcia? (Photo by Chris Lee • clee@post-dispatch.com)

  5.

Carpenter nails it • Chris Carpenter, who pitched the Cardinals into the playoffs on the last day of the season with a complete-game shutout over Houston, repeated the effort against a slightly stronger club to get St. Louis into the NLCS. Carpenter shut out the Phillies, 1-0, in a deciding Game 5 to put the Cardinals into the NLCS against Milwaukee. Game 1 is Sunday at 3 p.m. in Milwaukee. (Photos by David Carson and Chris Lee)
